Can't Sound it Out? Try this!
In class, we use Katie Garner's "Secret Stories" curriculum to teach the students phonics sounds and patterns. Often, we ask kids to "sound it out" when they don't know a word, but often this does not work and students need to recognize letter patterns in words. The pictures should prompt the students to remember the stories associated with the letter sounds/patterns. This will help them decode words and recognize patterns in the words. This document will be updated periodically as we introduce more stories in class. It is a great tool to help students when they get "stuck" on an unknown word when reading or writing.Sight Word Lists
Below is a list of the first 300 sight words. If your student has mastered all of the words in their color set, but I have not sent home new flashcards yet, use this list to create your own flashcards are use them as lightning words in their homework.
